Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of the LATAM Spring programme?

Expanding to international markets is complex and high risk. Founder Spring reduces that risk by building a bridge that companies can cross to gain quick access to relevant partners and clients. The LATAM Spring programme is an opportunity for you to travel to Latin America, meet with local investors, corporates and potential clients, test key business assumptions and lay the groundwork for expansion at a fraction of the normal cost of doing it alone.

When does the programme start?

The programme runs for approximately eight weeks. The trip to Chile is on the 21st of September 2019. However, the programme officially kicks off on the 5th of August 2019. Selected companies will receive approximately six weeks of coaching and advisory prior to setting foot in Latin America.

What is the expected time commitment for participating companies?

This is a flexible, light-touch programme that builds up to an intensive in-country experience. The only recurring time commitment is the coaching sessions which will be arranged to best suit your busy schedule. You can expect to dedicate no more than 2-3 hours every fortnight.

Where is the programme run?

There is no set location for the programme. We tailor the content for the accepted companies based on their location and needs. We have mentors and advisors across the country. You can participate online or in person.

How much does the programme cost?

Although the programme, including the trip, is subsidised by our partners, there is still a cost for each participant. The programme costs $2,000 NZD per person. This fee covers all general travel costs.

What does the programme fee cover?

The programme fee covers the following:

  • All coaching, education and advisory sessions

  • Flights

  • Accommodation

  • In-country transportation

Is there an application fee?
No. There is no cost to apply to the programme. There is only a cost to participate in the programme once accepted.

What does the application process look like?

The application process has two main steps. First, you must fill out the general application form on the LATAM Spring information page. This is a very simple form requesting basic information about your company and why you are interested in Latin America. Second, we will reach out to you and arrange a formal interview to get to know you and your company and assess fit with the programme.

How many people participate from each company?

Up to three people from each company are welcome to participate in the programme but only one person is eligible for the subsidized travel package.

What type of companies are you selecting? Any specific industries?

Although we are open to companies solving problems in a wide range of industries, we are particularly interested in solutions in the following areas:

  • Agriculture & Food

  • Tourism

  • Education

How many companies will be selected?

We will select up to six companies.

Do we need to have someone on the team who speaks Spanish?

It is very helpful if you or someone on your team speaks Spanish, but it isn’t an absolute must-have. We will have official translators on the trip and many of the people we will meet speak English.

What if my company is not based in New Zealand?

You may have presence in other markets, but your company must be based in New Zealand in order to be eligible to apply.

Do you offer scholarships or funding?

Yes, we have a limited number of scholarships for companies that meet certain criteria.
